Its efficient management, considering aspects like tariffs or QoS (Quality of Service), attracts much interest and research efforts. The new "frontier" is to integrate this service in the whole service delivery chain making the different stakeholders in the telecommunication business cooperate. The IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) service platform offers solutions embracing the current trend of respecting the Internet paradigm of transport and application layers separation, yet building interfaces between both domains. But IMS approach relegates the "information transport service" to a mere resource. This bundles IMS applicability. We propose that "information transport" regains its service status. Existing service management and composition techniques could be employed resulting on increased flexibility, new business possibilities and a better end service. We show the advantages of our approach compared to existing solutions, we discuss its complexity and analyze if it is feasible in NGN (next generation networks) and whether it is worth. ©2010 IEEE.
Application layers Composition technique Current trends Increased flexibility Information transport Internet protocols IP multimedia subsystems Multimedia services Next generation network QoS (quality of service) Quality of service Research efforts Resource service Service delivery Service management Service platforms Telecommunication equipment Telecommunication operators Telecommunication services Wireless networks Wireless telecommunication systems Wed, 18 Apr 2012 10:09:37 +0000 arainho 470 at https://atnog.av.it.pt A Multi-Variate Classification Approach for the Detection of Illicit Traffic https://atnog.av.it.pt/publications/multi-variate-classification-approach-detection-illicit-traffic classification Users profiles Wireless networks Fri, 23 Sep 2011 10:09:19 +0000 anogueira 385 at https://atnog.av.it.pt Metrics for Optimal Relay Selection in Cooperative Wireless Networks https://atnog.av.it.pt/publications/metrics-optimal-relay-selection-cooperative-wireless-networks
A key design issue in relay based cooperative wireless networks is the metrics used for relay selection. Internal operational parameters and network sensing parameters are two categories recently considered as decision factors for cooperation strategies. We focus on the impact of these potential sensing parameters as indicators of the effective cooperation, from the perspective of the network layer, namely: movement, medium access delay and medium delay ratio. Simulation results indicate a strong correlation between network performance and the proposed cooperative metrics. Novel solutions for cooperation should take these metrics into consideration in order to provide better network performance.
cooperation Network relay Wireless networks Fri, 16 Sep 2011 15:43:17 +0000 jpbarraca 369 at https://atnog.av.it.pt Key Function Interfacing for the MEDIEVAL Project Video-Enhancing Architecture https://atnog.av.it.pt/publications/key-function-interfacing-medieval-project-video-enhancing-architecture
The FP7 M EDIEVAL project, which started in 2010, has been
defining the necessary evolutions over today’s mobile Internet architecture, in
order to more efficiently support the upcoming growth of video services, in
mobile wireless environments. This paper evolves from these initial definitions, by taking into consideration the requirements placed by a core set of next generation video services and defining a global architecture. We describe its main functionalities and subsystems as well as the necessary interfaces, towards the operation of these services in different use cases.
M obile communication M ulticast/Broadcast. It is expected that video traffic will surpass Peer-to-Peer (P2P) in volume in the coming years, and thus novel mechanisms and techniques need to be provided to better suit its unique requirements. This article describes the key functionalelements of the MEDIEVAL architecture, which provides a video-aware networking core coupled with abstracting interfaces which cater to service and access technology specific requirements, aiming to enable efficient video transport and novel video service development.
Mobile communication Multicast/Broadcast Radio optimization Video services Wireless networks Tue, 12 Oct 2010 16:14:33 +0000 dcorujo 255 at https://atnog.av.it.pt
