Traffic analysis, modelling and measurements for the management of the future Internet, financed by FCT. This project is centred on several problems critical to successful future Internet engineering. It incorporates various aspects of modern Internet management such as traffic measurements, sampling, statistical analysis and modelling, and aims at providing better monitoring, inference, analysis and decision aid tools for the future. More specifically, the project is comprised of the following six tasks:

  1. Dependencies between Internet flow characteristics;
  2. Inference of flow characteristics from traffic sampling;
  3. Fast identification of Internet applications;
  4. Anomaly detection using robust Principal Component Analysis;
  5. QoS prediction based on network tomography;
  6. Integration of traffic awareness modules in P2P networks.

This project gives continuity to the research that this interdisciplinary team has been carrying out since 2000 within the scopes of the FCT projects SCALE (POSI/CPS/34826), PERMNET (POSI/CPS/42069) and MOMSAIT (POSC/EIA/60061) and the EU Networks of Excellence Euro-NGI and Euro-FGI (http://eurongi.enst.fr/).
