Advanced Telecommunications and Networks Group (ATNoG) workgroup server.

ATNoG is a research group founded in January 2011. ATNoG is the result of the merger of several research lines inside Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), including the research work previously centered around HNG(heterogeneous networking group), with a broader scope and increased cooperation with industry. The broad interests of ATNOG are centered on the problems of network infrastructure and operation associated to a visionary idea of a fully mobile, fully connected society, where information will be on the tips of the hands of the users.

In such a society, networks will be mostly multi-X. Multiple technologies, multiple providers, multiple services, multiple models of usage. The network will become increasingly a complex living entity, where companies, service providers, network operators and users will be engaged in an extremely dynamic interplay, with links, services and users moving, appearing and disappearing as time goes by. Both technology and service delivery will be two important vectors for providing the user with the seamless experience he will expect and demand.

Traditional problems, such as those of Quality of Service (QoS), Mobility, Multihoming, Ad-Hoc and intermittent connections, and Multicast are becoming simple concepts to be interwoven by proper monitoring and management of the networks and services. ATNOG aims to pursue activities along these lines, both as evolution of current networks and as clean-slate approaches.

This group has strong participation in national and european projects. As a short overview, ATNOG is being active in IST FP7 projects Medieval and SooS, in portuguese projects BotNets and Aware2, as well in many other local and industrial projects. More information can be found here.

ATNoG is cooperating with industries in Portugal and Europe (Portugal Telecom is a preferred partner,  ABBAN, Alcatel Lucent Bell Labs, Wavecom, Deutsche Telekom, amongst others) and with universities and research institutes worldwide (e.g. Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Carnegie Mellon University)

This site also intends (after login) to provide senior students with material and information that they can use in the production of their project reports, often developed inside this lab (see here).
